Afterglow Considers How Landscapes Provide Reflection and Healing

Hudson, NY – The Olana Partnership announced today that this season’s special exhibition Afterglow: Frederic Church and the Landscape of Memory will open May 12 in the Sharp Family Gallery at Olana State Historic Site. Afterglow brings together for the first time a series of intimate memorial landscapes painted by Church, 19th-century America’s foremost landscape painter, and highly personal family artifacts – never before exhibited -- from Olana’s collections.

Staatsburgh State Historic Site is offering a free, one-hour program, “Slavery, Segregation & Staatsburgh” in-person on Saturday, April 6 at 2 p.m. and via Zoom on Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m. The program is free, but reservations are required

This April, to mark the 112th anniversary of the Titanic’s infamous maiden voyage, Staatsburgh State Historic Site is offering their ever-popular “Tales of the Titanic” theme tour of the mansion.

“Tales of the Titanic” is as close as you can come to visiting the Titanic … and still keeping your feet dry! This 90-minute tour, led by a costumed guide, explores the mansion while offering tales of bravery and tragedy.

Tours are by advance reservation only; reservations are made at www.Bookeo.com/StaatsburghSHS  Admission is $10 per person; $8 for seniors and students; children ages 12 and younger are free. There is a winter scavenger hunt of the mansion that visitors ages 7-12, can enjoy while on tour, which includes a prize.

Funding in place for conservation of a rare c.1771 oil painting to be featured in a new major exhibition

Ticonderoga, N.Y. - Fort Ticonderoga, a museum, major cultural destination, and National Historic Landmark, has recently achieved its fundraising goal to conserve an oil-on-canvas painting. The full-length portrait of Frances (Fanny) Montresor-Buchanan-Allen-Penniman c.1771, was acquired in 1910, one of the museum’s earliest acquisitions. The painting is in need of professional conservation prior to display in 2025 as part of the upcoming annually rotating exhibition “A Revolutionary Anthology.” This exhibition is part of the museum’s national 250th commemoration, running from 2024-2028.

Olana State Historic Site (Peter Aaron)Hudson, NY - The Olana Partnership will hold its first Olana Third Thursdays on January 18 from 11:00am to 5:00pm at Olana State Historic Site. Olana Third Thursdays are monthly days of free tours of the historic landscape and house and programs for all ages.

On January 18, a special drop-in Artmaking in the Afternoon will take place in the Wagon House Education Center for all ages and skill levels, professional art supplies and refreshments are included.
